Harry Gray spent last season on loan at a struggling League One side, Rotherham United, who were relegated to the fourth tier at the end of the campaign.
The 17-year-old striker stood out in a poor team and showed glimpses of the talent that makes so many Leeds figures feel hopeful about his future at Elland Road.
However, Daniel Farke does not feel that the forward is ready to play in the Premier League next season, and he will be loaned out again in the ongoing transfer window.
The teenager will be part of Leeds’ pre-season preparations. However, a shock Championship club have already emerged as favourites to sign the young striker this summer.
Sheffield United lead the race to sign Harry Gray
Chris Wilder wants to build a squad this summer that will return Sheffield United to the promotion picture at the end of the season.
The Sheffield United boss wants to re-sign Kalvin Phillips this summer despite his failure last season, and the club are keen to add to their forward line.
The Blades have been tracking Gray for months, and according to Leeds insider Elland Back, Sheffield United are now leading the race to sign the young forward.
They are in talks with Leeds and the player’s camp to convince him to move to Bramall Lane this summer, and are confident of getting a deal done.
Sheffield United believe Leeds would be happy to send the young striker to a team that are expected to fight for promotion and play good football.
Wilder is prepared to give the young striker adequate game time to develop and provide him the freedom to express himself on the frontline.
Swansea City, Derby County and Charlton Athletic are also interested in Gray. However, Sheffield United have the edge in the race to sign him on loan this summer.

A move to Sheffield United makes sense
There is no love lost between Leeds United fans and Wilder. However, he remains a proven manager in the Championship, and Sheffield United will likely be in the running for promotion next season.
After playing in a struggling Rotherham side last season, Gray would love to play for a side such as Sheffield United, who play front foot football.
The teenager will also get to reunite with his former Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford at Bramall Lane and learn from the experienced striker.
Sheffield United will have to guarantee adequate game time for his development, but there are major upsides to this if the deal goes through this summer.
Whereve he goes ol loan, Leeds must include a recall clause, especially going to Sheffield Utd and Chris Wilder.
