Leeds United allowed Illan Meslier to leave on a free transfer once his contract expired and, somewhat reluctantly, sold Pascal Struijk to balance their books before the end of June.

However, Leeds still have some high earners on their wage bill who have no future at Elland Road, and the club are desperate to move them on before the end of the transfer window.

The Whites are open to offers for Wilfried Gnonto, Joel Piroe and Sebastiaan Bornauw, to name a few, and are keen to offload as much of their deadwood as possible.

However, the club are also working to find a new home for one of their highest-paid players before pre-season gets fully underway.

Leeds flop in talks to leave Elland Road

Leeds signed Harry Wilson on a four-year contract this summer, and he is now their highest-paid player alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Whites expect to offer big contracts to several of their targets. However, they also need to offload a few who are on big wages and are not part of their plans moving forward.

Jack Harrison is a player Leeds are desperate to sell after he returned from his unsuccessful loan stint at Fiorentina in the second half of last season.

He has one of the most lucrative contracts in the Leeds squad, but has no future at Elland Road going forward.

Harrison has been heavily linked with a move to the MLS, where New England Revolution are in negotiations with Leeds to secure an agreement.

According to the Daily Mail, the winger has also opened talks with the MLS side with a view to agreeing personal terms on a contract.

He is prepared to move on from Leeds and return to the MLS to rekindle his career in the United States.

Daniel Farke made a mistake with Jack Harrison

With hindsight, it is difficult to argue that Leeds United made the right call by bringing Jack Harrison back last season.

The logic behind the decision was easy enough to understand. After winning promotion, Daniel Farke wanted players with Premier League experience in his squad, and Harrison seemed to tick that box. Unfortunately, it never really worked out that way.

Looking back, Harrison simply was not at the level Leeds needed, even as a squad option. More tellingly, he never gave the impression that he wanted to be back at Elland Road.

That became clear when he pushed for a move at the first opportunity during the January transfer window.

It was a rare mistake from all parties involved. Leeds are now focused on finding a permanent solution to Harrison’s future, and they will be hoping to get it sorted before the transfer window shuts.
