Now that Leeds United have survived their first season back in the top flight, a lot of tough decisions must be made going forward. The team has some serious issues to address in the transfer window.
Just like after winning promotion from the Championship, thorough work must be done on the squad.
New signings that come in will have to come and improve the team long-term, rather than only being there to help avoid another relegation fight.
Daniel Farke has been vocal about what the club have to do ahead of next season, with the German keen on having a long future at Elland Road. He asked the 49ers to match his ambition, and invest on the pitch.
Leeds did not do this the last time the team were promoted back in 2020.
And that lead to Marcelo Bielsa’s side almost getting relegated. Even with a flurry of signings in the summer of 2022, the club went back down to the Championship, showing the need for quality improvements.
£25m Leeds United star could leave Elland Road this summer
Brenden Aaronson is a player that generates a lot of mixed opinions from the Leeds United fanbase.
Some do not rate the player, and believe he is not good enough to be a consistent starter. Others appreciate the fact that he turned his career around and works hard for the team.
Last season, Daniel Farke used him in a variety of roles before deploying him in central midfield.
But the American’s time at the club could be cut short this summer – the Whites are seriously pursuing a move for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles. The 22-year old is available for just £20 million this summer.
Looking at the options in the team, it is likely that Aaronson’s position will be under threat if Charles is signed

Southampton star brings a lot of quality
Some may question why Aaronson should be the one to make way given how important he was last season.
But if Shea Charles is signed, there is a high chance he comes in to play the same role as the £25 million man. And as seen in his performances this season, he edge the American.
Charles is a dynamic midfielder who has great technical ability that he matches with workrate.
The former Manchester City academy star also possesses more of a consistent goal threat than the latter.
His versatility is believed to be what Leeds United are looking at heading into next season – having the ability to play in midfield and attack, just like Aaronson.
The Leeds star is in the final year of his contract, which would make offloading him this summer an easy decision.
Charles is a defensive (mostly) midfielder and Aaronson (an erratic attacker) is not. Has the journalist watched them play ?
