Leeds United will host Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday in what is shaping up to be one of the season’s biggest games.

Manchester United’s form going into the game is terrible. They have made their worst start to a league campaign in 40 years, and are now dealing with internal strife.

Leeds United’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign ended against Arsenal last weekend. However, they threatened an upset and pushed the champions all the way.

The Whites are being seen as the favourites to beat Manchester United on Sunday. However, Chris Sutton has made one of the season’s most outrageous predictions ahead of the clash.

Chris Sutton drops the most astonishing Leeds-Man United prediction

The former Premier League winner has admitted he is tired of backing Manchester United, given their reputation this season, and reminded fans that even Tottenham outplayed them in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

He is backing Leeds to not only win but beat Manchester United convincingly and humiliatingly at Elland Road on Sunday.

Sutton predicted Leeds to beat the Red Devils 5-0 at home.

“Don’t forget that Spurs played them off the park early on in that game”, Sutton told the BBC.

“Maybe they will up their game and find a way to win this time because they are getting desperate – but I don’t see it.

“I think Leeds will beat them, and beat them convincingly.

“So far this season I have backed Manchester United most weeks, but I have had enough of that. I must have lost my head to stick with them so long – not any more.”

Not probable, but definitely not impossible

Chris Sutton has certainly given Leeds fans something to dream about by predicting a 5-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday. It is an outrageous scoreline, but is it completely beyond the realms of possibility? Probably not, although plenty would need to go Leeds’ way.

Manchester United have looked vulnerable this season, struggling for consistency and making life difficult for themselves in matches they should be controlling. If Leeds start quickly, feed off the Elland Road atmosphere and expose those defensive weaknesses, they could cause serious problems.

But scoring five goals against a club with Manchester United’s individual quality is another matter entirely. Leeds would need to be clinical, take their chances and avoid giving their opponents a way back into the game.

A convincing home win is certainly possible, particularly given the circumstances. Sutton’s prediction is bold, though, and Leeds should focus on winning rather than chasing a spectacular scoreline. Three points would be enough to make Elland Road erupt.
