Leeds United could be preparing for another summer departure, with one of their current loanees facing an uncertain future despite leaving Elland Road only a few months ago.

The move to Italy was meant to give the player a fresh start and a chance to establish himself in a competitive league. However, things have not gone entirely to plan, and his performances have given his temporary club reasons to think twice about making the arrangement permanent.

Even if that happens, a return to Yorkshire may not be on the cards. Leeds have already made an important decision about their goalkeeping situation, and there may be little room for a second option who wants regular football.

Perri struggling to convince at Torino

The player is Lucas Perri, who joined Torino on loan from Leeds during the summer.

The Brazilian has endured an inconsistent spell in Serie A, showing glimpses of his ability but not producing the reliability Torino needs to commit to a permanent deal.

The Italian club has an option to sign him for ÂŁ12m, but their financial position could make them reluctant to spend heavily on a goalkeeper who has yet to show consistency. Perri will need a strong second half of the season to change that assessment.

Leeds unlikely to offer him a route back

Even if Torino decide not to take up their option, Perri’s return to Elland Road would probably be temporary.

James Trafford has established himself as Leeds’ undisputed number one, and the club has little reason to change that hierarchy. Having invested in Trafford, Leeds are unlikely to bring Perri back with the intention of giving him a genuine chance to compete for the starting position.

The Brazilian may also have little appetite for spending another season as a back-up. At 28, he needs regular football, and accepting a place behind Trafford would be a hard sell as his next step.

Leeds could therefore look to find another buyer next summer if Torino do not make the deal permanent. They would prefer to resolve the situation rather than bring back a goalkeeper who is unlikely to feature regularly.

Perri’s time at Elland Road may not have worked out as planned, but the chances of him playing for Leeds again look increasingly slim.
