Making the cut at Leeds United has never been a guaranteed thing. Transfers are often huge gambles that clubs make to try and improve their first team.
So it is normal to see some players fail to make an impact at one club, and go on to succeed at another.
In fact, Leeds can boast of one of the better ”flops” in English football in the last few years. Patrick Bamford never had a settled club after breaking through at Chelsea.
He was passed on loan from one club to another, before arriving at Elland Road.
Bamford was a big hit at the club, scoring 42 goals in his first three seasons. He had a successful career and was loved by fans, before deciding to part ways last year after being left out of Daniel Farke’s plans.
Former Leeds United flop close to Premier League switch
Weston McKennie, who had a horrible loan spell at Leeds United, starred for USA at this World Cup.
Failing at Elland Road is not the end of a player’s career, sometimes it’s often the start of a new chapter.
Jaidon Anthony joined the Whites on loan in the 2023/24 season. He played 31 games for Leeds in the Championship, but managed just one goal in over 500 minutes.
Anthony sealed a move to Burnley in 2025, and had a decent campaign this past season.
His eight goals and two assists for a poor Clarets side has caught the eye of Brentford, who are pushing to sign him. Per The Athletic, the London club are in talks with Burnley over a move.
Brentford have submitted an offer and are looking to agree a fee.
The report indicates that they see Anthony as a valuable backup that could add a lot to their attack going into next season.

Leeds could do with someone like Anthony next season
Jaidon Anthony has been a solid Premier League player this past season, starring for Burnley.
Now, he is heading to Brentford to provide much needed depth for a team that lost two star attackers last summer. Looking at the current circumstances, Leeds could do with a player like him.
How many attackers in the league can boast of eight goals for a bad team?
The Whites had Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto as backups last season, and their productivity was nothing to write home about.
The 49ers need to address the depth in that area of the pitch going forward.
