Leeds United got the job done in front of their home crowd as they strolled to a 3-1 win at Elland Road. The club took advantage of playing first ahead of their relegation rivals.

They now have 43 points, and have gone nine points clear of Spurs who are in 18th place. Leeds have also climbed above Newcastle who are now in 15th. The win could all but guarantee another season in the top flight, but nothing has been mathematically confirmed as yet.

When Daniel Farke was asked about the momentum this win gives his side, he answered: ”We speak about it but not really. We won’t play in Europe next season, that is for sure. Of course we want to do this. But we are professional and we will fight for each and every point. I hate to lose. We want to finish as strong as possible. Next season it will be a different group and next challenges. What we have done so far is outstanding.”

What happened at Elland Road after Leeds United win

Leeds ran out comfortable 3-1 winners on Friday night, with goals from Anton Stach in the first half and, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the second half. Burnley pulled one back late on in the game, but could not do enough to get another before the final whistle.

After the referee signalled the end of the game, the in-house DJ at Elland Road decided to play Michael Jackson’s ‘Smoot Criminal’ through the stadium speakers. The home fans in the crowd sang along as they celebrated the win over the Clarets and their interim boss Mike Jackson. Many fans in attendance recorded the moment on video and posted on social media. The crowd was electric following their second home win in as many games.

Burnley will not be pleased

It was a difficult week for Burnley; they were relegated after losing to Manchester City the previous week, and Scott Parker was sacked days before this match. The atmosphere at Turf Moor has not been the best, and they were well beaten on their trip to Elland Road on Friday night. To add insult to injury, the home side decided to take a jab at interim boss Mike Jackson with the stadium music. The club, players and fans will all have reasons to be aggrieved, but sometimes in football you take things on the chin.
