Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted his 12th league goal of the season for Leeds United on Friday night. The goal rounded out an excellent performance from the Whites in their win over Burnley.
The three point sees them go nine points clear of Spurs in 18th place, with three league games to go. This should provide them a good enough cushion as the rest of their relegation rivals are in action later this weekend. The picture at the bottom of the table has been changing every week, and it showed on Friday night as Leeds’ win moved them above Newcastle who have seemingly been dragged into the relegation battle.
talkSPORT pundit delivers Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict in Burnley win
Friday night’s game was a very fine all-round performance from this Leeds United side as they bounced back from the disappointment of the FA Cup exit last Sunday. An early goal from Anton Stach opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game as the home side were dominant in the first half.
Burnley were able to hold them off for a bit, but Leeds once again struck early in the second half, scoring two goals as Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin found themselves on the scoresheet. Carlton Cole was speaking on talkSPORT about Calvert-Lewin and his performance on the night.
“I don’t think he has done really well, and grabbed his opportunity [for England].
“But his form in the league and what he has done as a focal point of the attack, England can look at that and put an arm around him; he could be an option rather than Harry Kane.
“He draws in two or three defenders and creates space for others.
“That’s his job, creating chaos.”

Striker has a strong claim to being one of the best signings in the league
For all the criticism they got in the summer window, it looks like the 49ers made the right choice when it comes to a lot of their signings for the first team. Anton Stach, Jaka Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been solid additions to the team. The striker in particular seems to have surprised everyone in the league, after clubs were not keen on taking a chance on him after he left Everton. With 12 goals in the league, and Leeds United close to safety, there are not a lot of arguments against him being one of the best Premier League signings this season.
