Leeds United continue to be busy in the January transfer market with just a week left before the deadline as they look to reinforce their squad.
Working within tight financial limits, the Whites have already strengthened their attacking options by securing Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton, after he rejected an identical move last summer.
Leeds are also exploring striker targets and are understood to be working on a deal to sign Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, potentially for a club-record fee this winter.
Wolves have knocked back an offer from Leeds for the striker. However, it appears that the club’s pursuit of the Norwegian has more legs ahead of the end of the window next week.
Jorgen Strand Larsen ‘likes the idea’ of joining Leeds United
Leeds are working away on a potential deal to sign the striker. However, there are several other Premier League clubs who are interested in Strand Larsen.
Crystal Palace have emerged as strong suitors for the Norwegian, and with Forest pushing to sign Jean Philippe-Mateta, the Eagles do need a striker.
However, Leeds have a slight edge over other clubs to sign the striker before the transfer window closes next Monday.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Strand Larsen and his agent like the idea of joining Leeds in the ongoing transfer window.
His agent is a Leeds supporter, and that has played a role in his being keen on a move to Elland Road in the coming days.
However, Leeds will still have to match Wolves’ financial demands as the club are not willing to lose players on the cheap.
They would prefer to hold on to their best players despite being almost certain to go down to the Championship at the end of the season.
Leeds need to sign Strand Larsen as they can’t afford to stand still
This weekend’s results have underlined that Leeds cannot afford to ease off, despite losing just once in their last 10 matches, and that complacency could prove costly.
| Appearances | 35 |
|---|---|
| Goals | 14 |
| Assists | 4 |
West Ham’s back-to-back victories have moved them within touching distance of climbing out of the relegation zone, while Nottingham Forest’s win over Brentford has relieved some of the pressure on them.
Both clubs have also been proactive in the transfer market in an effort to boost their survival hopes, while Leeds have so far only added Facundo Buonanotte.
With Forest pushing to sign Mateta, the pressure is now on Leeds to make sure they can get a deal for Strand Larsen over the line in the final week of the window.
The Whites cannot afford to stand still and rely on those below them continuing to struggle if they are to secure Premier League survival.
