Anton Stach produced a moment of brilliance from a free-kick to earn Leeds United all three points against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on the opening weekend.

It was a tight and scrappy contest for long periods, with neither side able to create many clear-cut chances. Just when the game looked destined to finish 0-0, Stach stepped up with a superb late strike to send Leeds home with a valuable win.

The result gives Daniel Farke’s side the perfect start to the new Premier League campaign, and Leeds managed to carry all that positivity from pre-season into the first game of the campaign.

Forest were left disappointed to lose at home in the first game of their season, given how tight the game was until Stach produced that one moment of quality.

Ex-Forest star brands Leeds United ‘fortunate’ to win

It was a tight game that could have gone either way, and probably they deserved to share the points. However, Leeds produced that one moment of quality to steal a win at the end.

However, former Nottingham Forest star Jack Colback insisted that Leeds were fortunate to win all three points at the end and the home side looked the better team in the second half.

He feels Leeds made the most of the opportunity from a set-piece in a game that neither team did enough to get a win in 90 minutes.

Colback said on BBC Radio Nottingham: “I think it’s a game neither really did enough to win.

“I agree that Forest certainly had the better of the second half, and they got some momentum.

“A lot of huff and puff without any real quality. One or two opportunities from set-plays.

“From that start it seemed that was going to win it, and unfortunately for Forest and fortunately for Leeds, it went their way.”

Leeds will not care what others feel

Leeds left the City Ground jubilant after stealing all three points away from home in the first game of their Premier League season.

Their away form was a worry, and they will not care how they managed to bag the win at the end through a brilliant set-piece goal.

Nottingham Forest is a tough away trip for most Premier League teams, and you are not always going to win at such grounds by playing pretty football.

Leeds remained resilient and had a player of Stach’s quality in the team who could produce such moments of brilliance to win games that they may not have deserved all three points from.

What a wassock. It doesn’t matter who plays better. The game is about goals and Forest couldn’t score. Simple as that.
