Some major changes have already gone on behind the scenes at Leeds United as preseason begins. The club have already made one huge addition, and brought back a key figure.

Unfortunately, the Whites have lost out on one of their best players from last season.

Brighton swooped in to sign Pascal Struijk at the end of July, capitalizing on Leeds’ need to sell. The club used the funds to balance their books ahead of the PSR deadline.

Karl Darlow is all but gone, as he is a free agent but there is some good news.

Alex Cairns has committed to stay at the club beyond this season. Leeds now have a reserve goalkeeper as they continue their search for a first choice option.

Leeds United face deadline to sign midfield star

Harry Wilson was the first player Leeds United signed this summer.

The former Fulham man arrived on a free transfer and will give the club much needed quality and depth in attack. Last season Wilson had 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

Another player Leeds are keen on signing this summer is Shea Charles.

The Southampton star is the priority target, with the team already having sent two offers. The Saints are holding on as they have their valuation for the midfield star.

According to an exclusive source from The Leeds Press, there is a ‘deadline’ for the deal.

Per the source, Leeds and Southampton have held fresh talks over a move for the 22-year old midfielder. They were very positive and all parties are positive a move can be sealed by 24th July, when the Whites jet off to the US for preseason.

Which midfielder could make way for Shea Charles?

Seeing that he was a priority target for this summer, Charles will definitely be a starter when he arrives.

Leeds could have a midfield of Anton Stach, Ethan Ampadu and Shea Charles. Last season, that third spot in the middle of the park was contested by Ilia Gruev, Sean Longstaff and Ao Tanaka.

Having six options in one position may be a lot for next season.

So it is likely that one of the three could leave this summer. Gruev’s contract expires in 2027 and he could be sold, while Tanaka had interest after his performances at the end of last season.

Sean Longstaff could remain as him leaving after just one season is unlikely.
