Leeds United fans are really excited with how the club have started this season. And they have every right to with the Whites having gone unbeaten in their first five games.

Daniel Farke’s side sit in fifth place in the league, just three points off a spot in the top four.

This has lead many to believe that a shot at Europe is on the cards for the club who were just promoted last season.

Leeds have done their best in the off-season, bringing in a lot of quality into the first team. They maintained their core of players and also kept Daniel Farke around for this campaign.

The talk of Europe has grown louder since the international break began.

Former Chelsea and Leeds United star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has spoken about the Whites’ chances of getting into Europe.

“They have done very well in recruitment. Really good. They look stronger than last year. They’re improving.” he told GOAL.

“It’s too early to talk about UEFA spots. I think they have to just keep on going. And 10 games before the end, that is where you look where you are. In the meantime, they need to stay far, far away from the bottom three.

“What they are doing, that was a little bit different last year in the beginning, they are looking like a proper Premier League club team. So they are building, keep on building. And who knows? You never know.”

Leeds are back in league action this weekend when the face Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.

Club do not need to focus on Europe now

Hasselbaink is right, there is no need for everyone at the club to have their sights fixed on a spot in Europe.

Getting there is a long and gradual process for everyone involved. You need to get the planning on point and invest in the first team to stand a chance of finishing in the top half of the table.

Leeds must take things one thing at a time just like Hasselbaink said in the interview.

Winning games and getting crucial points on the board remain priority this season and the squad knows it. Jayden Bogle even joked that the club’s aim this season is 40 points (to survive relegation).

Farke and his men must take things slowly, and near the end of the season they can assess their chances.
