“I don’t see Leeds…” – Chris Sutton drops damning final day West Ham vs Leeds claim

Leeds United have little left to play for beyond ending the season on a positive note when they travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United today.

The Whites secured Premier League survival with matches still to spare, but they could still have a major say in deciding which team gets relegated on the final day of the campaign.

West Ham must beat Leeds and also hope Everton can do them a favour by defeating Tottenham Hotspur elsewhere in London.

Chris Sutton has now assessed the different final-day scenarios and delivered his prediction for what might unfold at the London Stadium later today.

The former Premier League winner drops his West Ham vs Leeds claim

Chris Sutton has claimed that Everton will beat Tottenham, but is unsure whether that will help West Ham to survive in the Premier League on the final day.

He doesn’t see West Ham beating a Leeds side that Daniel Farke won’t allow to relax, and he doesn’t see the Whites losing on the last day of the campaign.

The former striker has gone for a draw between Leeds and West Ham, which will send the Hammers packing down to the Championship.

Sutton told the BBC: “I am going for Spurs to lose at home to Everton, but can West Ham get the win they need to have any chance of staying up?

“I can’t see it myself. Hammers midfielder Mateus Fernandes said his side lacked fight in last weekend’s defeat by Newcastle, which is really damning, and they have lost form at the worst possible time.

“In contrast, Leeds are well organised and playing with so much confidence. I am a big fan of their manager, Daniel Farke, and I don’t see him losing this.

“There will be loads of drama and probably loads of chances at both ends too, but I am going for a draw, which would send West Ham down to the Championship for the first time since 2011-12.”

The Hammers still have a chance

Jamie O’Hara has already raised doubts about whether West Ham should really be favourites against Leeds, given the impressive form the visitors have shown in recent weeks.

West Ham head into the final day having lost their last three matches, but they still have a chance of staying in the Premier League.

Leeds, on the other hand, have continued to play with intensity since confirming survival and are unlikely to ease off this weekend.

That said, West Ham know this is a massive occasion and will hope the pressure and atmosphere help bring out a big performance in front of their supporters.

If Everton were to take the lead against Tottenham, the mood inside the London Stadium could quickly become electric and give the Hammers an extra lift.
