“I think Leeds are…” – BBC pundit delivers Leeds United relegation verdict on Football Focus

Leeds United took a big step towards safety on Friday night, beating Burnley 3-1 at Elland Road to move nine points clear of the relegation zone and put themselves in a strong position to stay up.

Saturday’s results brought some added drama at the bottom, with West Ham suffering a 3-0 defeat to Brentford at the GTech Stadium.

Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are still to play this weekend, so there could be more twists in the relegation battle before this round of Premier League fixtures comes to an end.

Leeds are not mathematically safe yet. However, it would take a freak set of results and a complete meltdown for the Whites to go down at this stage of the season.

‘Take Leeds United out of the race’ – BBC pundit

Stephen Warnock and Nedum Onuoha were on the BBC’s Football Focus and took stock of the situation in the Premier League relegation race on Saturday.

With Leeds on 43 points and looking comfortable, Warnock insisted that the Whites are one of the teams that are no longer in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League.

West Ham and Tottenham are the ones who are in real trouble at this stage, while the former Liverpool defender insists that even Nottingham Forest are still in the dogfight.

Warnock said, “I think Leeds and Palace are out completely.

“You can take Newcastle out as well.

“It’s literally between Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Spurs for me.”

The Whites still need to focus on themselves

Daniel Farke has guarded against celebrating until they are mathematically out of the relegation race, despite their points haul with three games left in the season.

Leeds may be safe before they face Tottenham a week from Monday. But Farke and his team are unlikely to drop the intensity before the end of the season.

Premier League Bottom Six Table 2025/26 Season
Pos Team MP Pts
15 Leeds United 35 43
16 Nottingham Forest 34 39
17 West Ham United 35 36
18 Tottenham Hotspur 34 34
19 Burnley (Relegated) 35 20
20 Wolverhampton (Relegated) 35 18

Spurs may hope that they face a more relaxed Leeds side in north London, as it is likely to be a must-win game for Tottenham if they are to survive.

Leeds will also travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham on the final day, which could end up having a huge impact on who gets relegated this season.
