‘It’s been unacceptable…’ – £40m former Leeds United ace will surely be regretting Elland Road exit decision – he could’ve done so much better

When Archie Gray left Leeds United it was one of the more emotional moments the club experience. The Elland Road faithful had followed the youngster’s journey to the first team, only to see him go.

Gray was a highly rated talent in the academy, and quickly made his way into Daniel Farke’s plans. Initially starting out playing as a right back, he started to earn the Leeds boss’ trust and got some key minutes in midfield. His stellar campaign earned him the EFL Championship Young Player of the Year award.

Archie Gray’s performances that season were enough to convince Tottenham to splash £40 million to sign him. The club were reluctant to let him go, but in the end, they needed the funds because of their PSR troubles.

Archie Gray addresses Spurs Champions League collapse

Things have not been rosy for the young midfielder since he joined the London club. First team opportunities have not come easy, with him being limited to cameos and cup competitions. This season, he has been called into action more due to injuries at Spurs. The club itself is in crisis following a long run of bad form; now Tottenham have been dragged into the relegation battle.

After their 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Gray had to address the media over his team’s struggles.

“We have got to take responsibility, what’s happened this game and in the Premier League. In quite a lot of games this season it’s been unacceptable. We have to take responsibility and push on.”

Spurs have won just two games in all competitions in 2026 – things are not going well for the London club.

Midfielder must regret leaving Elland Road

Gray’s Spurs career so far has not gone well at all, and some will say that he should have stayed at Elland Road for a couple of more seasons. The club were sort of forced to sell him, but they still could have kept him. Developing in such an unstable environment like Tottenham is not a great way to start your career. Unlike at Leeds, he had Daniel Farke who was patient with him, and a stable dressing room that was ready to guide him. Hopefully he kicks on in his career, but Archie Gray will definitely be wishing he never left Elland Road at this point.

The lads down the pub all disagree. Archie is a Premier League regular at the age of 20 (tomorrow) and regardless of this season’s outcome he is a trusted component in a massive influential squad. The next fifteen years will determine whether he regrets the move and please acknowledge our club spent the money on decent quality recruitment.
