Leeds United are still waiting for one of their summer arrivals to make the kind of impact that convinced the club to bring him to Elland Road. His reputation was built on consistently dangerous attacking performances, but so far, he has struggled to replicate that quality in a Leeds shirt.
Sunday’s goalless draw against Sunderland offered another opportunity to make a statement, yet the performance left plenty to be desired. With Daniel Farke seeking more creativity and goals, pressure is mounting on his attacking options to deliver.
Now, former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford has weighed in, making it clear the club should expect more from a player who arrived with such high expectations.

Beckford wants more from Wilson

Harry Wilson joined Leeds on a free transfer this summer after an impressive campaign at Fulham, where he established himself as a major attacking threat. However, he still hasn’t scored his first Premier League goal or provided an assist for the Whites, and he still hasn’t secured a regular starting place.
Jermaine Beckford believes Wilson’s quality is beyond question, but he wants to see more from the Welshman.
“I was watching the game, and obviously we all know how good Wilson is”, Beckford told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“We’ve seen him carry Fulham over the last couple of seasons and be special. He’s always been a special type of player.
“Brenden Aaronson, we know he’s in there because last season he was towards the top end of the charts for the most turnovers in the final third. So he can bring some of that energy and determination to win the ball back and then slide Dom through, or whatever it may be. But it was a difficult game for the boys to be involved in.
“I think on any other day, Daniel Farke would have been hoping to have somebody else in there alongside one of those two rather than throwing them both in. But look, it’s a point.
“We managed to keep a clean sheet. We created a couple of chances. I do want to see a little bit more from them though, especially Wilson, based on how good he was last season.”

Leeds need Wilson to deliver soon

Beckford’s comments reflect the frustration surrounding Wilson’s slow start. Leeds signed him expecting a player who could deliver in decisive moments, not someone who would spend the opening weeks struggling to influence games.
His performance against Sunderland was particularly disappointing, given the chance to help Leeds turn another draw into a win. Conditions were difficult, and the team struggled collectively, but Wilson knows his reputation is built on making things happen even when games are tight.
Farke also needs to find the right balance in his attacking setup. Wilson and Aaronson offer different qualities, but Leeds cannot afford to keep searching for a combination that consistently creates chances and scores goals.
There is no reason to write Wilson off after a difficult start. His performances at Fulham showed what he can offer, and arriving on a free transfer gives Leeds a chance to benefit from that quality without paying a major fee. But his pedigree will count for little if he doesn’t deliver.
Wilson still has time to turn his season around. However, with Leeds desperate for more goals from across the team, he needs to start showing why the club were so keen to bring him to Elland Road.
They’ve spent nothing upfront in 2 years and it’s plain to see
There a hard watch
All graft with zero skill 😴
Either play him in favoured positions where you get the best from him or be patient until he is used to the new system.
It’s not his fault.
Supporter58, SPOT-ON !!! Farke is playing him out of position and it’s clearly NOT working
A player like Wilson doesn’t turn into shit overnight, this is Farke and his training ground staff’s fault. On a different subject, what’s Farke up to with Bahoya ? If hewas fit, didn’t he at least get 25-30 mins game time against Man Utd or Bournemouth ???
How can BECKFORD SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ANY PLAYER NOT DOING ENOUGH HE WAS A LAZY PLAYER MOT
