Leeds United have a striker on their shortlist following the signing of James Trafford this past week. A center forward remains one of the club’s priorities as the transfer deadline approaches.
Sky sources have also indicated that a fullback, central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and a backup goalkeeper are also targets.
This pre-season has seen Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha continue their fine form from last season. The duo combined for over 20 goals in all competitions after they arrived at Elland Road on free transfers.
Joel Piroe was not in the squad to face RB Leipzig on Saturday, leading to rumours of an exit.
Piroe was confined to the bench last year, and with a year on his contract, he could leave this summer. All this plays a part in the 49ers pursuit of a new striker at Leeds.
Leeds United target makes transfer decision ahead of potential exit
Graham Smyth reported that Carlos Espi was one of the strikers the 49ers had their eye on.
The Spaniard has since been snapped up by Real Madrid. Despite that, the plan at Leeds United seems to be getting in a ‘younger profile’ at the center forward position who can challenge Calvert-Lewin.
Leeds have held interest in Japanese international Ayase Ueda since last season.
The striker scored 26 goals in 38 games in all competitions for Feyenoord last year. He is a major target for clubs across Europe this summer, including Leeds.
Dutch journalist Mikos Gouka believes that Ueda is keen on a move to the Premier League.
“My information is that he himself really wants to go to the Premier League, but that the path he dreams of has not yet been mapped out there.” Gouka said on the Alegmeen Dagblad podcast (quotes via FR12).
“Clubs have enquired, but no offer has been made yet that would make Feyenoord hesitate.
“Such an offer is coming from Turkey now, but he is initially less keen on that.
“Sometimes that can change depending on the amount involved.
“But I think he is waiting for a Premier League adventure.”

Leeds need a striker
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done a great job since he joined the club.
He defied all expectations and had a 15-goal season despite the odds. When he first arrived at the club, many were concerned because of his injury history and reported wages.
However, Calvert-Lewin has delivered this past season.
The club still needs more firepower up front; Lukas Nmecha will always be a backup and Joel Piroe’s situation is sealed. Piroe is not good enough to start for the team, and could be sold.
Which would leave just two center forwards in the first team. A move for a profile like Ayase Ueda would be ideal for the 49ers.
What is a “Center Forward”? Have we suddenly changed continents?

No he isn’t he’s a (very good) centre forward!
