With the season nearing its end, Leeds United are starting to shift their focus towards the summer transfer window and the areas of the squad that still need strengthening.
The club’s recruitment team have been tracking players and drawing up shortlists for months, but preparations have accelerated since Premier League survival was secured.
Leeds are not expected to overhaul the squad again this summer. Instead, the plan is to make a handful of key additions, with Daniel Farke urging the board to show the same ambition he has demonstrated throughout the season.
The Whites are in the market for a striker, and Lois Openda is one of their biggest targets. However, the club have not lost sight of a long-term target and are very much in the transfer mix.
Leeds United are in the ‘transfer mix’ for Troy Parrott
Troy Parrott has scored 31 goals in all competitions this season for AZ Alkmaar and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.
The forward has indicated that he probably has played his last match for AZ and is prepared to take the next step in his career in the upcoming transfer window.
He told ESPN NL: “If this was the last match, I have had the best two years of my life.
“The club ensured that I could make progress. It is important for me to take the next step in my career and to play at the highest level.”
Parrott further added: “No, I don’t. I have no wishes and no dreams regarding my next destination.”
According to Dutch outlet Soccer News, Leeds are very much in the transfer mix for Parrott ahead of the summer transfer window.
Everton, Tottenham and AC Milan are also interested in getting their hands on the striker, who is a product of the Spurs academy.
The Whites need a striker
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored 14 Premier League goals this season and has turned out to be one of the signings of the season on a free transfer.
However, the former Everton man needs one more striker to share the goalscoring burden at Elland Road next season.
Despite Calvert-Lewin’s brilliance, he has scored in short bursts and have gone long periods without finding the back of the net.
Leeds have been too reliant on him for goals and need one more striker, such as Troy Parrott, in the squad who can be as good, if not better than him, next season.
