Daniel Farke had several tough decisions to make last summer as he reshaped Leeds United’s squad following promotion to the Premier League. Those difficult conversations were always going to be part of the process.

One of the biggest calls was informing Patrick Bamford that he was no longer part of the club’s plans, a decision that ultimately led to the striker leaving after agreeing to terminate his contract.

With Farke’s approval, Leeds also moved several players on, sending the likes of Mateo Joseph, Largie Ramazani and Max Wober out on loan to continue their careers elsewhere.

Perhaps the most debated decision, however, was recalling Jack Harrison.

After spending the previous two seasons out on loan and being widely expected to leave permanently, Harrison looked destined for the exit door. But when Everton decided against signing him, Farke opted to bring the winger back into the fold for pre-season instead.

Jack Harrison closes in on MLS move

The Leeds winger spent the latter half of last season on loan at Fiorentina. However, he struggled to make an impact in Italy, and the Serie A club have no interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Leeds have already signed Harry Wilson, and are looking to move on a few of their wide players, rather than accommodating another winger.

Harrison has no future at Leeds, and his representatives have been asked to find a new club for him this summer.

It emerged last month that MLS outfit New England Revolution are interested in taking the Leeds winger to the United States this summer.

According to Nussa Radio US reporter Gustavo Lopes, New England Revolution are still in negotiations with Leeds to sign Harrison in the ongoing window.

An agreement is now close between the two clubs as the MLS outfit are growing confident of signing the Leeds winger this summer

Leeds are happy to move him and his wages off their books, as he is one of the highest earners in the current Leeds squad.

He has no future at Elland Road

Looking back now, it is fair to say Leeds United got the Jack Harrison decision wrong.

The thinking was understandable. After promotion, Farke wanted experienced Premier League players in the squad, and Harrison appeared to fit that profile. In reality, though, the move never worked out.

With the benefit of hindsight, Harrison simply was not at the level required, even as a squad player. More importantly, he never looked fully committed to being back at Elland Road.

That became obvious when he pushed for a move at the first opportunity during the January transfer window.

It was a rare misjudgement from everyone involved. Leeds are now left trying to resolve Harrison’s future once and for all, something they will hope to do before the transfer window closes.

Give him to the construction team as a hod carrier, though he’d likely drop the bricks at that … just get rid!
