Leeds United supporters have every right to be impatient with new signings. A solid Premier League season has raised expectations, and nobody wants to see the club spend time and money on players who fail to deliver.
But writing off a summer arrival after just eight games is a different matter altogether. Footballers need time to settle into a new team, understand their manager’s demands and build relationships with unfamiliar teammates.
Judging them too early can be just as costly as giving them too much time.
The comparison with Helder Costa might be tempting, but Leeds fans should be careful not to let one disappointing transfer spell dictate how they view every new arrival.

Harry Wilson deserves time to prove his worth

The player in question is Harry Wilson, whose quality on the ball is not in doubt. His left foot, ability to create chances, and eye for goal are exactly the qualities Leeds need in the final third.
Of course, supporters want to see more than occasional flashes. Wilson needs to influence matches consistently, and he will be judged on what he produces rather than what he has achieved elsewhere.
However, eight games are hardly enough to decide whether he will succeed at Elland Road. A difficult start doesn’t automatically mean a disappointing season, especially when a player is adjusting to a new environment and different demands.
Costa’s experience should not become a template

Costa arrived at Leeds with plenty of promise but ultimately failed to live up to expectations. That history explains why some supporters are wary, but it does not mean Wilson is destined to follow the same path.
The two players have different qualities, and their careers should be judged on their own merits. Wilson has the opportunity to become an important figure for Daniel Farke, provided he turns his technical ability into regular end product.
Leeds do not need to pretend every signing is a success, but they should give players a fair chance to prove themselves. Eight games can raise questions. They should not deliver a verdict.
Wilson still has plenty of time to make this comparison look premature.
The lads down the pub believe he is a useful addition as a dead ball specialist but he needs a few improved performances to boost his confidence and decision making.
Far too early to compare Harry Wilson to Helder Costa … I always felt that HC was a little bit on the ‘lazy’ side, whereas watching HW for Fulham last term, and so far at Leeds, I would suggest he is struggling a bit to find his way. He must be given time to better understand what Daniel Farke expects of him … when he finds a goal, it will change him completely, imo.
