Leeds United stormed to a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Elland Road on Monday night, with the result lifting Daniel Farke’s side into third place in the Premier League.
Under the lights, Leeds delivered an outstanding performance, handing Newcastle their first defeat of the season across all competitions. The Whites controlled much of the evening and thoroughly deserved a convincing win.
Ao Tanaka’s deflected shot went in after the half-hour mark before Jayden Bogle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored two more before the end of the first half.
Noah Okafor added a fourth at the hour mark before Newcastle scored in stoppage time to add a semblance of respectability to the scoreline for the visitors.

Jamie O’Hara cannot believe Leeds United revelation
Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara picked the bones out of Leeds United’s big win over Newcastle on talkSPORT’s Sport Bar show later in the evening.
The former Spurs star was repeatedly questioning Cundy’s assertion that Elland Road is extra intimidating under the lights for all visiting teams.
However, O’Hara was blown away when he was told Leeds’ record under the lights in the last 22 home games and did not believe the numbers at first
He conceded that maybe playing Leeds at Elland Road under the lights was tougher than what he was initially prepared to accept.
O’Hara said: “18 wins, four draws and no losses in the last 22 home games.
“That can’t be true.
“18 wins under the lights? Maybe it is intimidating.”

Elland Road is a bear pit under the lights
Leeds are a tough team to beat at home, and some of the biggest sides in the Premier League have struggled to register wins at Elland Road since they came back up last year.
However, under the lights, they become even more intimidating when the fans turn up the noise, and the atmosphere becomes almost claustrophobic for the visiting team’s players.
Some of the Newcastle players looked shell-shocked last night, and they were completely blown away before the whistle for the first half was blown.
Leeds have only lost one league game in 48 at Elland Road under Daniel Farke when they kick off at 7:30 pm or later.
