Leeds to deal major transfer blow to Chris Wilder this summer

With Leeds United on the brink of securing their Premier League status for next season, the 49ers can begin preparing to identify summer signings to bolster Daniel Farke’s squad.

James Trafford certainly fits the bill, with the out-of-favour Manchester City shot stopper being linked with a move to Elland Road again recently.

Mohamed Amoura is another name who has once again been linked to Leeds after the Whites reportedly showed an interest in the Algerian forward during the January transfer window.

However, an even longer-term transfer target could finally be set to sign for Leeds this summer, who, at the same time, would be dealing Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder a major blow should they secure the player’s signature.

Gus Hamer once again linked with Leeds United

By now, every Leeds fan is accustomed to hearing the almost annual Hamer to Leeds rumours at this point, and this summer seems to be no exception.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Hamer is “set to be sold” by Sheffield United, with them languishing in mid-table in the second tier as their wait for a return to the Premier League goes on.

Leeds are said to be one of the clubs pursuing Hamer’s signature, with the Dutchman potentially being available for a reduced fee after Nixon claimed the chances of “a big money exit may be less for him”.

Whilst he may not be a guaranteed starter for Leeds, Hamer would represent immense quality for Farke to have at his disposal to bring off the bench when Leeds need a creative spark in midfield.

On top of this, the chance to steal Wilder’s star man would be the icing on the cake if the Whites could secure a discounted move for Hamer in the summer.

Data suggests Gus Hamer could be a useful addition for Leeds

Despite Sheffield United struggling, Hamer has still put up some impressive numbers, especially from a creative standpoint, and this creativity is something Leeds have lacked in their midfield at times this season.

  • Hamer has scored four goals and provided 11 assists in 34 Championship appearances so far this season, whilst primarily being deployed out on the left
  • Hamer has also proven to be able to do it in the Premier League, scoring four goals and providing six assists in a poor Sheffield United side during the 2023/24 campaign, as they were ultimately relegated (Sofascore)

The Dutchman could easily be deployed by Farke as a number eight, ten or even out wide if the Whites needed and for this reason, if his services are available for a cut-price fee, the 49ers may certainly choose to explore this option, and dish out heftier fees for positions they see as more of a priority this summer.
