Leeds United have hit the 40-point mark in the Premier League and, while they are not officially safe yet, it would take a dramatic downturn for them to slip back into the relegation fight.

With their top-flight status all but secured, the focus is already starting to shift towards the summer, when the club is expected to be busy in the transfer market.

Adding quality in midfield is a key priority, with Leeds looking at several options, including Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney and Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

Leeds also know their budget will be tight, so they are open to opportunities that allow them to bring in quality players without overspending this summer.

Daniel Farke is eyeing a cut-price move for Gustavo Hamer

Gustavo Hamer has been linked with a move to Leeds since Farke joined the club in 2023, and the German remains a big fan of the Sheffield United midfielder.

The Blades have so far resisted selling the Dutchman, especially to a rival such as Leeds. However, that is set to change in the summer.

Hamer will have a year left on his contract, and Sheffield United are now likely to let him go for a cut-price fee in the upcoming transfer window.

According to Sportsboom, Leeds are amongst the clubs who are prepared to take advantage of the situation and land a long-term target in the coming months.

Farke remains a firm admirer of the player and wants to add his flair and creativity to his Leeds midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window.

West Ham are also one of the clubs that are prepared to take a look at Hamer ahead of next season, if they survive in the Premier League.

Chris Wilder wants to overhaul his squad and is prepared to say a forced goodbye to Hamer in the summer to bring in fresh faces.

With his contract running down, this summer is Leeds’ best opportunity to land the Dutchman on a cut-price fee.

Who will make way for him at Elland Road?

Midfield is one of the few positions where Leeds have decent depth this season, so any new signing would likely mean someone has to move on.

Hamer would be a standout addition, especially with several clubs in England and across Europe showing interest in him ahead of next summer.

Even so, Leeds would probably need to offload at least one midfielder to create space for his arrival when the window opens.

Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach remain central to the team, while Ao Tanaka has recently underlined why he should stay at Elland Road.

As a result, it could come down to a straightforward decision between Sean Longstaff and Ilia Gruev when it comes to making room for a new midfield signing or two.
