Leeds United pursuing Celtic defender

Many of the biggest clubs in England not only bring in talent to enhance their current squad but also youngsters who can be the stars of the future. It now appears Leeds United are set to join in on that trend.

The Whites – having signed Joe Gelhardt last season from Wigan – are in hot pursuit of Wigan youngster Sean McGurk and are also now in talks to bring in one of Celtic’s most exciting youngsters according to Football Insider.

Their report revealed that Leeds are in negotiations to sign 17-year-old defender Leo Hjelde as they look to build for the future perhaps in a bid to ensure their continued progression having only just returned to the top flight of English football.

United have been tracking the centre-back for some time now and appear to have taken the first step in bringing Hjedle to Elland Road this summer as they look to exploit his current contract situation. He has just one year remaining on his current deal.

Despite being just 17 years of age, the Norwegian Under 18s international made 12 senior appearances last season as he spent the year on loan at Ross County. To play top tier football at such a young age requires quality so it seems Hjelde is an exciting prospect who could be one of the many future stars at Elland Road.
