This week, reports have emerged that Leeds United are keen on signing Wolves star Ladislav Krejci. Most of this was after the club’s 3-0 win over Rob Edwards’ side at Elland Road.

Leeds have picked up seven points in their last three games, and are now nine points clear of the relegation zone. 40 points this season is most likely to guarantee the club another season in the Premier League. Talks have taken place between the Whites and Krejci’s camp in the last couple of days. There is said to be confidence that personal terms will not be an issue if Leeds move forward with an offer. The defender will join Wolves on a permanent deal at the end of the season, but has a relegation release clause that will allow him to leave.

Leeds United warned about signing Premier League defender

Amidst all these rumours, former Manchester United Chief Scout Mick Brown has warned Leeds not to sign Ladislav Krejci. According to him, players from relegated teams are not good enough to improve the current quality of Daniel Farke’s side.

“Leeds have to be wary of signing players from relegated teams,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Everybody does it, every club in the Premier League will be looking at Wolves and Burnley and seeing whether they have any players capable of staying in the top division.

“The problem I have with that, especially for a team in and around that relegation battle like Leeds, is that these players have shown they’re not good enough.

“It’s a major worry when a team goes down in the way Wolves have, because what have those players done to show they deserve to be in the Premier League.

“If you’re Leeds, you want to strengthen your squad to give you a better chance of staying up next season, and relegated players won’t give you that.”

Player quality is key in this scenario

It is a fact that Krejci was a consistent starter in a team that will finish bottom of the league this season. But as it stands, he is not the sole reason why Wolves will be relegated. Since joining the club, he has been impressive and has caught the eye of other clubs in the division. Playing for a team that has been relegated does not mean you do not have quality. A lot of Premier League sides have found success in signing from relegated sides. So Leeds can sign Krejci without having any reservations.
