Leeds United have reached the 40-point mark in the Premier League, and while they are not mathematically safe just yet, it would take something dramatic for them to go down now.
With survival all but secured, attention is already turning to the summer, with the club preparing to step up their activity in the transfer market.
Leeds are in the market to reinforce their midfield, and they have already identified a few top targets ahead of the summer, including Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney.
Daniel Farke is also keen to add more Premier League experience to his squad ahead of next season, and they are now pushing to make a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.
Leeds United are in direct contact to sign Joao Gomes
Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League is confirmed, and several players are expected to leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Gomes is one of the players who is expected to move on from Wolves, and several Premier League clubs are interested in getting their hands on him.
Manchester United are among the clubs that are tracking the 25-year-old, but it has been claimed that Leeds have made an early move for him ahead of the summer.
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Leeds are in direct contact with Gomes’ camp over a potential transfer to Elland Road ahead of next season.
He is seen as one of their top targets, and talks are underway between his representatives and Leeds over a proposed move in the summer.
Leeds have a clear intent to seal the deal and convince Gomes to move to Elland Road ahead of next season.
An offer of around £50m is expected to be made to ensure the midfielder joins Leeds in the summer.
Leeds will need to sell a midfielder
Midfield is one of the few areas of the squad where Leeds have depth this season, and any new arrival would have to mean someone getting sold.
Joao Gomes will be an elite signing for Leeds, given that some of the top clubs in England and Europe want to sign him next summer.
However, Leeds will need to sell at least one of their midfielders to make way for his arrival in the upcoming transfer window.
Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach are lynchpins of the team, and Ao Tanaka has shown recently why he deserves to stay at Elland Road.
It could come down to a straight call between Sean Longstaff and Ilia Gruev over who makes way for a new midfield signing this summer.
