Looking back on the summer transfer window, Leeds United had a lot of hits and misses. The window overall will go down as a mixed one looking at how some of the players have fared this season.
For the money spent in the summer window, many would peg the club to be in a better position than they currently are. Sunderland spent around the same money but seemed to have gotten more value looking at how they have performed in the league this season.
But it has not been all bad for the Whites as some of the new signings have hit the ground running. Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff are easily the standout signings this season, while the likes of Gabriel Gudmundsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been solid additions to the squad. The Whites have been linked with names like Raheem Sterling as the January window approaches.
Neil Warnock has weird but high praise for Leeds United man Joe Gelhardt
The outgoings in the summer were straightforward; players who could not be afforded playing time were allowed to leave, with most going out on loan. But one player Leeds fans have been shocked by is Joe Gelhardt. The forward has been in sensational form for Hull City in the Championship this season, with many starting to realize his potential as a player.
Neil Warnock, who said he used to call Gelhardt a ”little rat”, says the Leeds loanee can become a very good player:
“He’s a manager’s player, him. I once said about Dean Saunders, I used to call him a little rat because he never let anybody have any time.” Warnock said, speaking on Sky Sports.
“In a nice way, and he (Gelhardt) is like that. He never gives anybody time. I love watching him.
“I believe the Championship is his level. I don’t mean this in a negative way.
“I think he’s still learning, and he could progress, similar to Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, they both have potential to achieve greater things, I believe.
“I’ve been impressed with his finishing. I just think he’s such a good lad.”
Leeds will cash in on young forward
Joe Gelhardt’s exploits this season have not gone unnoticed, with reports that Hull want to sign him on a permanent deal. The forward will also have interest from other Championship clubs who will want to snatch the explosive forward.

His current contract at Elland Road is up in 2027, so Leeds basically have this summer to make a decision on his future. And with his value at its highest in recent years, the smart move will be to sell him to the highest bidder when the summer window comes around.
