Leeds United have prioritised signing a striker in 2027 as Daniel Farke looks to build on his attacking options over the next two windows.

Lukas Nmecha’s future at Leeds means the club could look for a backup striker in the winter window if the German refuses to sign a new contract.

However, Leeds also need a long-term signing who can replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin or play alongside him.

Leeds have been keeping tabs on several strikers with a view to a future move, and they have received a key update on one of the players they are watching.

The Whites get an update on a France international

Esteban Lepaul is one name linked with a move to Leeds, with suggestions the club is closely watching him as a potential target.

The 26-year-old Rennes striker, who has scored 37 Ligue 1 goals in his career, recently broke into the French national team, and Leeds scouts have been tracking him.

He has been in pristine form this season, scoring seven in seven league games, and Leeds are among the clubs interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

However, according to Football Insider, the forward is not considering leaving Rennes and is not in any rush for a January transfer.

But Lepaul is more likely to accept a transfer next summer, when he is expected to consider his options.

He doesn’t want to leave Rennes just after breaking into the France squad, and a mid-season move doesn’t appeal to him.

Leeds are among the clubs considered favourites to sign Lepaul, with the 49ers ready to back Farke with the money to fund a top new striker.

Will he suit Leeds?

Esteban Lepaul could be an intriguing option for Leeds United, but whether he suits Daniel Farke’s side depends on how the club plans to use him. The Rennes striker scored 21 Ligue 1 goals last season and has continued his impressive form, with seven goals in his opening seven league appearances this term.

Lepaul’s biggest strength is his instinct inside the box. He reads space intelligently, moves sharply, and can finish chances with minimal touches. Those qualities could complement Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose physical presence and ability to occupy defenders can create openings for another forward.

However, Leeds would need to consider the financial outlay. Rennes have tied Lepaul down until 2030, and competition from other Premier League clubs could push his price beyond what makes sense.

He has the goalscoring record to warrant consideration, but Leeds must be certain he fits their system and would get enough minutes to justify the investment.
