The report from the Shields Gazette reveals that a deal for Trafford was going to be too expensive. He is going to be signed for over £40 million and will be on £130,000 a week contract.
Newcastle assessed the situation and ended up spending around £44 million on two goalkeepers this summer.
Ewan Jouen and Lucas Hornicek were a cheaper package considering the transfer fee and wages combined. The Magpies feel like they made the right decision by not pursuing the England keeper.
