The January transfer window is approaching and Leeds United are expected to be active following their current situation. Though the Whites are not in the relegation zone, they are not quite out of danger yet.
They picked up a huge four points out of six in their last two games against Chelsea and Liverpool. Most of that was down to Daniel Farke’s inventiveness; the Leeds boss changed the system to a 3-5-2 to secure a win against the Blues. However, on Saturday night, the system was not quite effective against Arne Slot and the Reds, so he switched back to the 4-2-3-1 which salvaged a point from 2-0 down.
There are a few games left between now and January and it is very important that Leeds get some points on the board. According to football finance expert Dan Plumley, the 49ers could decide to back Farke next month.
Potential Leeds United January move off as Joe Gelhardt suffers injury
It is too early to be predicting what will happen when the transfer window opens, but one deal that could be ruled out is Joe Gelhardt leaving Leeds United. The forward, who is on loan at Hull City, suffered a calf problem. Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic has disclosed that the 23-year old could be out for more than a month.
| Statistic | Rank |
|---|---|
| Shots on Target | 2nd |
| Through Balls | 2nd |
| Non-Penalty Goals | 3rd |
| Goals | 2nd |
| Fouls Won | 4th |
| Successful Take-Ons | 5th |
“Our prediction is five weeks, and in five weeks we have how many games? A hundred… So we will see,” Jakirovic told the Yorkshire Post.
“We cannot change anything. We will try to replace him.
“It’s not easy because he scored 10 goals and two assists but we will try to replace him with team effort.”
This comes as a huge blow for Hull, who are currently in the race for a playoff place. Gelhardt has been instrumental for the Tigers this season, and has been one of the best players in the Championship so far.
Injury derails transfer plans
Being ruled out for more than a month in January means that for now, Gelhardt is not completing a permanent transfer anytime soon. According to reports, Hull are still keen on bringing him back in the summer.
| Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 10 | 3 |
Insiders at the club have reported that Leeds value the forward around £8 million, which could increase depending on how Gelhardt performs between his return from injury till the end of the season.
