Transfers are never a certain thing when it comes to football clubs, Leeds United included. The Whites have splashed the cash on a lot of players since 2023, and the success rate has been questionable.
Even though the club signed some great players like Raphinha, Rodrigo Moreno and Anton Stach over the years, they have had their fair share of flops.
The likes of Rasmus Kristensen and West McKennie come to mind; they were both underwhelming when they joined the club.
A lot of factors come into play when teams sign players; adapting to your new environment is a huge thing. Especially when it comes to England and the Premier League.
Leeds have had success recruiting foreign players in the last few seasons, and the club have continued down that path.
Raphinha speaks about Leeds United icon
On their return to the Premier League back in 2020, the club splashed the cash to sign Raphinha from Lille. The Brazilian was an amazing signing that wowed the Elland Road crowd.
He adapted to life in England pretty quickly.
Years after leaving the club, he revealed that Liam Cooper was a big part of why he fit in when he arrived in England. The Brazilian was speaking to the Scottish Sun ahead of Brazil’s game against Scotland.
”Liam was a guy who really helped me a lot from the very first day I arrived at Leeds United.”
”He helped me to adapt, especially with the language because I did not speak the language.”
”I had no English at all and I wasn’t used to the football there – and especially the cold weather.”
”Liam was someone who really helped me to adapt into the club and brought me in with all the players.
”Without understanding anything, he tried to talk to me! he said smiling
”I look back and Liam was someone who gave me peace of mind to be able to play good football at Leeds.
”It was really important to have support from someone like him who had been at the club longer.”

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds side was a memorable one
Bielsa remains a cult hero in West Yorkshire with the job he did for the club.
Bringing them back to the top flight for the first time in decades was just another achievement on a long list.
The squad was full of likeable players; from captain Liam Cooper, to Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno. The attack was spearheaded by Patrick Bamford, who was unstoppable that year.
Ezgan Alioski at left back and Kalvin Phillips in midfield was a delight to watch at Elland Road.
Hopefully this current group of players can aspire to match that going forward.
