Revealed: Leeds United outline strategy for securing promotion

Daniel Farke against Coventry City

Leeds United saw their two-game winning streak after the FIFA international break ended on Saturday, as they settled for a scoreless draw against Bristol City at Ashton Gate Stadium.

After solid victories over Sheffield United (2-0) and Watford (2-1) at Elland Road, Daniel Farke’s side was eager to maintain their momentum against mid-table Bristol City.

In the first half, Leeds was more aggressive, taking eight shots compared to Bristol’s three, but both teams went into halftime without scoring. Leeds added nine more shots in the second half, while Bristol managed just one. Despite their efforts, neither side could find the back of the net.

With Leeds United struggling to secure a win against a mid-table Championship team, concerns are growing about their chances for promotion to the Premier League.

Despite the recent result, Leeds United’s strong defense and clean sheets are poised to keep them in Premier League football next August. Daniel Farke is confident about the team’s future, emphasizing that their backline is the toughest in the division after securing their sixth clean sheet of the season on Saturday

“General, when I have to judge the first 12 games after a bit of a crazy and wild first game, I have to say what we have delivered then was rock solid,” Farke said (h/t Leeds Live). “It’s really my true belief the best defense in the league always goes up.

“It’s one of the claims we have. We want to be the best defense. We’re on a good path. We have already added many, many clean sheets, but you always have to stay awake.

“If you do one step less or offensive players work less back, if there is an injury or whatever, sometimes the momentum can change quickly. For that, it’s too soon to praise our defense yet because just 12 games are done, so just one-quarter of the season is more or less over.

“We have to keep going, but if you can keep going with this solidity, then it will definitely be a key, key topic, in order to have something to cheer about come next May, yes.”
