When Leeds United failed to land marquee targets in the summer window, fans were not pleased. The club looked light in attack, with Daniel Farke even complaining about the quality.
It was very late in the transfer window that the Whites rushed to complete a deal for Noah Okafor, as well as signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer. So in the summer, Leeds ended up with three attackers including Lukas Nmecha. Fans were bemused at these three players after the club had been linked with the likes of Rodrigo Muniz, Bilal El Khannouss and failed with a deadline day move with Harry Wilson.
Simon Jordan hails Leeds star for his performances this season
The 49ers have been proven right in some aspects, as all three players have contributed greatly this season. Calvert-Lewin, Nmecha and Okafor are the three top scorers for the club in all competitions this season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has performed well all season, and even earned a recall into the England squad. Simon Jordan has credited the striker with Leeds’ success this campaign.
“I expected Leeds to stay up, I didn’t expect the furore about Daniel Farke to form the thinking for the first quarter of the season,” he said on talkSPORT.
“But notwithstanding that, I expected Leeds [to stay up], given the scale of the football club. Calvert-Lewin is a revelation for me, the fact he has kept himself fit and provided a real threat.
“I watched your team batter Palace at Christmas, batter them. And no-one’s really given Leeds a hard-time beside Arsenal in the last four or five months.”
Leeds need more firepower this summer
The club’s recruitment have done a great job with these three; each bring something unique to the lineup. Calvert-Lewin has a great striker, Nmecha has been a solid option off the bench and Okafor has been a revelation. Depending on how this season goes, the Whites could be back in the market for new players, especially in attack. There have been many examples this season where Leeds have had the chance to kill off games, but the players have failed to find the back of the net. If the club can add players who can get similar numbers to Calvert-Lewin, then they could improve upon what they have done this year.
