It emerged weeks ago that Leeds United had James Trafford as their number one goalkeeping target this summer. From the outside it looked like a very ambitious move.
But club sources revealed that Leeds were willing to wait for an opportunity.
After the World Cup ended, news broke that the club had contacted Manchester City over a potential deal. Trafford had given his go ahead as he was keen on establishing himself as a first team keeper elsewhere.
The financial package of the move was heavy, as a record fee was quoted.
As of Thursday, Beren Cross has confirmed that the England star has completed his medical ahead of a move to Elland Road. The fee is said to be around £40 million plus add-ons.

With the medical over, now the final details will be checked off ahead of the keeper’s announcement.
Leeds United have made a big splash signing the Manchester City keeper, who they view as a long-term solution to the club’s goalkeeping problem. James Trafford will become the third signing to arrive at Elland Road since the transfer window opened.
Fans have to look no further as to what other targets the 49ers have lined up for the rest of the summer.

A report from Sky Sports’ Zinny Boswell revealed that Leeds could target up to five more signings after Trafford. Among that list is a backup goalkeeper, a fullback, a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and a striker.
From now till the end of the transfer window, the recruitment team have a huge task cut out for them.

Analyzing the club’s needs after targets revealed
After Trafford, a backup goalkeeper is definitely ideal, as Leeds cannot trust Alex Cairns to fill that role this season.
With how much money the club have spent on one player, the 49ers could try and land a budget option or even a free agent. That could be the same situation with the fullback issue.
Gabriel Gudmundsson’s recent injuries are worrying, but the club would only need a backup and not someone to compete with or replace him.
Shea Charles looks to be heading elsewhere, which now changes plans for a new central midfielder. Losing out on Brandt also explains why another attacking midfielder is on the board.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs a capable deputy, and Graham Smyth has already indicated that Leeds are eyeing a younger option to sign as a striker in this window.
