Steven Gerrard lavished praise on a Leeds United star after the Whites’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday.
Leeds have made a solid start to the Premier League season, sitting seventh after seven games and looking primed to finish in the top half.
Several new signings have come to the fore for Leeds this season and are behind their strong start. However, one old guard has also been pivotal.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his fourth league goal of the season on Sunday against Manchester United, and Steven Gerrard has been blown away by his performances.

Steven Gerrard insists Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s quality was never in doubt

On The Overlap Daily, the former England and Liverpool star has lavished praise on Calvert-Lewin and his impact on Leeds since his arrival last year on a free transfer.
He is happy to see the 29-year-old striker remain fit and insisted that once he gets over his injury problems, there will be no doubt about his qualities.
Gerrard feels he is a nightmare for defenders and is pleased to see him succeed at Elland Road.
“I’ve met him a couple of times, and he’s a great kid”, Gerrard said.
“The best thing for me is to see him playing, staying healthy and consistently completing games.
“If he’s fit and available, everyone knows the level of player you’re dealing with. He must be an absolute nightmare for centre-backs because he can do everything.
“He’s good on the floor with his hold-up play, he’s quick, he can run the shoulders and score with both feet and is so dangerous from set-pieces. His finish against United was terrific.
“I never had a doubt about the level of player he is because I saw him doing it a number of times for Everton and for England. It’s great to see him back scoring goals and enjoying his football again.”

Leeds’ ambitions this season rest on Calvert-Lewin’s shoulders

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form could prove crucial if Leeds United are serious about staying in the European qualification conversation this season.
His all-round game has plenty to admire, from his movement and ability to occupy defenders to the space he creates for those around him. But Leeds will also need their main striker to deliver when chances come his way.
The difference between a promising campaign and a genuine push for Europe often comes down to taking opportunities in tight games. Calvert-Lewin’s ability to turn half-chances into goals could be decisive, particularly against sides Leeds need to beat at Elland Road.
With bigger clubs facing uncertainty, Leeds can capitalise. Keeping Calvert-Lewin fit, confident, and scoring would give them a much better chance of doing exactly that.
