Leeds United snatched a late win in their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. Daniel Farke’s men had to dig in to pull off the result.

It was an evenly matched game for most of the 90 minutes, with not much separating the two sides.

The game started with a slow tempo in the first half, with neither team looking like they had full control of the game. Ola Aina’s bad tackle on James Justin was probably the only memorable moment in the first 45 minutes.

Aina only received a yellow even after the VAR review.

Forest grew into the game late in the second half, but Leeds managed to hold on.

Anton Stach pulled off a sublime free kick to seal all three points for the visitors.

Daniel Farke’s side will not care how they won the game, but Leeds United have three precious points to kick off the new season.

Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner was not really pleased with the result. After the game, he shared his thoughts on the match, pointing out that his side were the better team in stretches of the game.

“Well, it was the game I expected. The one situation that will decide and one set-piece will decide. It was a game with very rare chances. Really disappointed, but this is what we have to expect today.” Glasner said on BBC MOTD.

“It felt like in the second half that we controlled the game better. Moments where they didn’t play in our half, we played more in their half. At the end, after the throw-in, then two mistakes, a free-kick and anything can happen. We all know how well Stach takes free-kicks.”

Game should push 49ers to sign attackers

The most important thing that Saturday’s game proved was that Leeds lacked attacking quality.

There were many moments in the game where one player was isolated up front with no support. Daniel Farke’s men could not attack at will and relied heavily on set-pieces.

Reports say the club are eyeing a deal for Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk.

It is a sign that the 49ers are looking in the right direction. Adding another quality player up front would be a real boost to the team; last season the only options on the bench were Piroe, Dan James and Gnonto.

Leeds must prioritize bringing another attacking threat to Elland Road.
