Top three Leeds United FA Cup goals

Leeds United have had some rotten luck in the FA Cup, failing to make it past the fifth round since their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in 02/03.

With the Football Association now changing the goalposts, making it harder for clubs down the English football pyramid by removing FA Cup replays, it may be a while before they have a decent Cup run.

Still, Leeds United have had some fantastic moments in the world’s oldest cup competition. Here are our top three Leeds United FA Cup goals.

Patrick Bamford vs Peterborough: 2023/24

It’s a recent one, but it’s an absolute belter. Bamford showed just what he’s capable of by controlling Ethan Ampadu’s long pass, before unleashing a thunderous volley from 25 yards out.

The unstoppable shot left Posh goalkeeper Fynn Talley rooted to the spot as it found the back of the net.

Ross McCormack vs Tottenham Hotspur: 2013/14

On his day, McComack was unplayable and this goal was one of his best. A lofted pass from the goalkeeper misses another Leeds United player, McCormack nods it down and his strike partner dinks it over the Spurs defence.

The Scottish forward runs on to it, cuts inside, leaving Steven Caulker for dust and curling it beautifully past Brad Freidel in the Spurs net.

McCormack then wheels away kissing the badge, know he’s just scored one of Leeds’ best-ever FA Cup goals.

Jermain Beckford vs Manchester United: 2009/10

On a technical level, this goal wasn’t that impressive, but it meant so much. Leeds United had just missed out on the play-offs the season before. Fans needed a big moment, and Beckford provided it.

The forward nearly messes it up with his first touch from the lofted pass, but he doesn’t give up, beating the Manchester United defender to it and beating the goalkeeper.

The ball slowly trickled into the back of the net and the Leeds United lads celebrated like there was no tomorrow. They went on to knock their bitter rivals out of the FA Cup.
