Leeds United were under pressure going into this game at Elland Road. The team had to bounce back from the disappointing FA Cup exit last weekend.

Their status in the Premier League was also priority, after Spurs and West Ham picked up points over the weekend. Burnley looked like a very winnable game, with everyone expecting the Whites to pick up three points.

Just eight minutes into the match, Anton Stach hit a low drive from yards out past the keeper to open the scoring. The Clarets were on the back foot for most of the first period, but Leeds could not take advantage. They took their one-goal lead into half-time, but came out swinging in the second half; Noah Okafor scored just seven minutes after half-time and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored four minutes later.

Burnley pulled one back through midfielder Loum Tchaouna, who also scored in the reverse fixture. The match ended 3-1 to Daniel Farke’s side and the home crowd was pleased.

Newcastle fans are furious after Leeds United won on Friday

43 points in the Premier League all but guarantees safety; teams that have hit that mark over the last few years have survived the division. The win on Friday night also moves the Whites up the table, and pushes Newcastle United down to 15th. Now, the Magpies have been drawn into the danger zone with their relegation rivals in action this weekend.

Newcastle United fans let their anger out on social media, on Twitter/X.

”Ladies and gents if we don’t beat Brighton tomorrow and Forest beat Chelsea we could drop to 16th come Monday night depending on GD” one fan posted.

Another added: ”Leeds result moves us down to 15th!!! Pressure on us to get the win tomorrow!”

One fan in particular was shocked: ”Don’t think any toon fans seen this coming at the start of the season!!”

”Easiest season ever to get European football with how tight it is and how many places there are and, as it stands, we’re below a team that was only meant to be in a relegation battle” another posted.

Whites are in the driving seat heading into the weekend

Picking up the win was the most important thing Leeds have done this weekend. The rallying cry from Daniel Farke and Ethan Ampadu during the week has worked wonders. The team was motivated, and even when Burnley pulled one back, they stayed focus and saw out the win. Now the other teams have to deal with their own relegation battle, including Newcastle United who have been dragged into this.
