When Leeds United lifted the Championship title, there were many questions over who would be playing in the Premier League. Fans acknowledged that the current squad would need massive improvements to make the step up.
And Leeds showed that in the summer window, bringing in 10 new signings. Each part of the team got serious upgrades; the club signed a new goalkeeper, bolstere the defence and added some quality in attack.
The Whites lost Manor Solomon in the summer, and eventually loaned out Largie Ramazani and Mateo Joseph. During the summer, many questions came up about Joel Piroe – after winning the golden boot, there were still questions about his ability to translate his goalscoring to the Premier League.
Joel Piroe set for Leeds United exit
Since the season began, it has been clear Daniel Farke has not been a fan of him. The Leeds boss has preferred Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha this campaign. When asked why the Dutch striker was not in the lineup, he explained that since his team is no longer dominating possession of the ball at this level, the club needed more from their focal point than just finishing.
This is what Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha bring; both strong on the ball and relentless when challenging defenders. Now, with the latest reports emerging in this January window, Piroe’s time at Elland Road is up. Leeds just signed Facundo Buonanotte on loan for the rest of the season, and are looking at adding another striker, with Jorgen Strand Larsen heavily linked.
Club are right to move on from striker
Looking at how much Joel Piroe has played this season, it will be a good decision to allow him to leave the club. And per Sky Sports, Celtic are one of the clubs keen on signing the Leeds man this month.
| Competition | Games | Goals |
|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 10 | 0 |
| EFL Cup | 1 | 0 |
| FA Cup | 1 | 0 |
Piroe is at a good age, and a decent value which means Leeds will make some money off him if he leaves on a permanent deal. Which is the most likely outcome as the club are in the market for another center forward. Daniel Farke even pointed out that he is open to adding quality to the current attack of the team.
