It was revealed last week that Leeds United had reached an agreement to sign Harry Wilson this summer. This was a move that the club had been after since the last summer window.

Leeds tried to sign the midfielder on deadline day last year, but Fulham pulled the plug.

Wilson stayed in London and had one of his best seasons – scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists. However, as the season progressed, it became clear that he would not remain with Fulham.

He has even been offered a new contract ahead of his current deal expiring this month.

The Athletic have revealed that Leeds are the front runners, having agreed terms and booked a medical. It would be a miracle if he did not end up at Elland Road this summer.

Leeds United transfer costs Premier League club millions

Adam Pope did reveal that anything significant in the Leeds United deal for Wilson would happen after 1st July.

That would be when the midfielder’s contract ends with Fulham.

Harry Wilson would become the latest free agent signed to bolster this Leeds squad. Last summer, the club brought in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, who both ended up as the club’s top scorers this past season.

Signing free agents is a great way to save money on transfer fees, and improve your team.

In the case of Harry Wilson however, Liverpool have lost millions on his decision to move to Elland Road this summer. Wilson joined Fulham years ago for a reported £12 million fee.

The deal included a sell-on clause of 15%. This meant that any sale from Fulham would see the Reds get a percentage of the transfer fee.

But since he is leaving the London club at the end of his contract, Liverpool have missed out on millions.

Daniel Farke needs more depth

Harry Wilson will not be enough if Leeds United want to stay competitive next season.

The midfielder will give Daniel Farke some flexibility regarding his team. Wilson can play in midfield or out wide as an attacking player; making him a perfect fit for the 3-5-2 system of last season.

But Farke needs more bodies if he is to succeed next season. There were a lot of holes last year that needed plugging.

Hopefully the 49ers and their recruitment team can fill all these gaps and give Leeds a fighting chance in their next Premier League campaign.
