£43m bid rejected for Leeds United target shining at the World Cup

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has been desperate to sign a creative midfielder since he took over the club. The Whites have played without a ‘recognized’ playmaker under the German so far.

The summer before the promotion campaign, Farke pushed the club to sign an attacking midfielder.

Names like Gustavo Hamer and Fabio Carvalho were floated around, but in the end none of them were signed. So the Leeds boss decided to convert Brenden Aaronson into a number 10 and it worked out that season.

He was a big part of the attack that scored over 90 goals as the team won the league.

When the club was promoted, the team had shifted their approach to games. A more conservative style focused on being solid and physical, and playing on the counter attack.

Huge bid rejected for Leeds United target

Before the Premier League kicked off, Leeds United looked at other attacking midfielders too.

Bilal El Khannouss and Harry Wilson were strongly linked as well as Facundo Buonanotte. None of the made the move, outside Buonanotte who eventually joined in February.

Per TEAMtalk, the Whites could be in the market once again for a creative midfielder this summer.

The most strong links are to Fulham star Harry Wilson, who is set to be out of contract later this month. The London club have offered him a deal, but he is yet to sign anything.

Como midfielder Martin Baturina could once again be available, per reports. Leeds tried to sign the Croatian in January, but their efforts were futile.

It look like Como are set for a busy summer, with multiple clubs across Europe showing interest. Sky Italia have reported that the Italian side turned down a £43 million move from an English side.

The midfielder’s goal against England at the World Cup will no doubt boost his stocks ahead of the window.

Daniel Farke still needs a creative spark in the team

Leeds did well to manage to survive relegation in the last campaign.

They scored goals, and defended well, but fans think they could have done more. And much of that is largely due to the fact that the team lacks a playmaker who can create out of nothing.

Out of Leeds’ midfield and attack, no one really stands out as a player who can ‘make magic’ happen.

This profile of player could b exactly what the team needs if they are determined not to have a bad second season, like most promoted clubs do after their first campaign.

If he still wants to move I think the most likely target is Harvey Elliott.
