With the January transfer window right around the corner, Leeds United fans are eager to see which transfers the club makes. In the summer, there was a lot of optimism at the start of the window.
However, what happened at the end infuriated most people at the club. Leeds chiefs explained that PSR was why the club failed to land some big names when the window was opened. So now, fans do not know to expect in the next few weeks.
What is for certain is that, it is likely no first team player will be leaving the club when the January window opens. Daniel Farke confirmed that he would like to keep the group of players he has ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Leeds United plan for transfers revealed
One thing that could happen in the next few weeks is a new arrival. Leeds United defender Joe Rodon picked up a nasty injury which will reportedly rule him out for up to three weeks. This will leave the Whites a bit short of depth at center back now that they play a 3-5-2. Farke admitted in Wednesday’s press conference that this latest development could change the club’s plans in January.
”A little bit, because the amount of centre-backs or strikers you need might change if you play a different formation.
”It impacts the plans but I wouldn’t say it’s changed hugely.
”The plan was always to be a bit more flexible in the base formation, longer we are together being capable to play in three-man formation.
”Affects slightly the plans for January.”
This latest information backs recent reports that the 49ers are after defensive depth. RB Leipzig star Chadaille Bitshiabu was one of the names that popped up on the radar.
New system requires extra depth
The switch from the 4-2-3-1 to 3-5-2 moves a lot of things around for Daniel Farke. The new system has meant that some players have been dropped to the bench, while others have been tried in new roles. What is most important is the depth in the middle of the pitch.
| Player | Games Played | Minutes Played |
|---|---|---|
| Joe Rodon | 18 | 1,561 |
| Pascal Struijk | 16 | 1,358 |
| Jaka Bijol | 10 | 805 |
| Sebastiaan Bornauw | 3 | 99 |
With three center backs and three midfielders, it leaves the club a bit light when it comes to depth on the bench. This is why the Joe Rodon injury could be a huge problem for the Whites. Now, Sebastiaan Bornauw will have to step into the backline, leaving no natural center back on the bench for the next few games. Bringing in an extra defender could be beneficial for the club.
