Leeds United have several important decisions to make on the futures of certain players after finishing 14th in the Premier League last season.

The focus is on improving the squad at Elland Road and bringing in upgrades who are going to make a real difference to the team in the 2026/27 campaign.

However, Leeds also have a few calls to make on the contracts of certain players. Ethan Ampadu has already signed a new deal, but there are concerns around Pascal Struijk, who is considering his options this summer.

Several other players are entering the final years of their deals at Leeds, and one of them has addressed his future at Elland Road amid contract uncertainty.

Ilia Gruev breaks his silence on his future at Leeds

The Leeds United midfielder missed the FA Cup semi-final and the last few weeks of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.

Leeds hope that Ilia Gruev could be fit in time to return for pre-season training, and his recovery is being closely monitored during the post-season break.

The midfielder will also enter the final year of his contract at Leeds, and the club are yet to sit down with him to discuss a proposed new deal.

Gruev has not completely ruled out leaving Leeds this summer, but indicated that even if he leaves, the midfielder is likely to stay in the Premier League and England.

Speaking to Werder Bremen’s official website, the Leeds star said when asked about his future: “You can always imagine anything.

“But I have to say that I really appreciate the Premier League and really like playing here. Of course, I still follow the Bundesliga, but my focus is on the league in England.”

Leeds have a decision to make

Ilia Grueve was a key member of the squad at Leeds last season and played in some big games in the middle of the park.

However, he was not a certainty in the starting eleven and was often in and out of the team, with Farke trusting others over him in several games.

With a year left on his contract, Leeds have to decide whether it is worth offering him a new deal or sell him to bring in an upgrade in that area of the squad.

Anton Stach and Ethan Ampadu are certainties in the midfield, and Ao Tanaka showed towards the end of the season why he deserves to play more.

Gruev also have to make a call on whether he wants to remain a squad player at Leeds or move on to be a major player at another Premier League club.
