Leeds United have finally completed the transfer of James Trafford from Manchester City. The England goalkeeper arrives on a long term deal.
The fee is said to be in excess of £40 million, making him a club record signing.
From the start of the summer window, Leeds had their eye on a potential move for him. So when talks began with City over a week ago, it did not take long for the keeper to agree personal terms.
Fans were anxious as the deal dragged on, but club sources were adamant that the deal will be completed.
Trafford becomes the third signing of the summer under the 49ers, who still have a lot of work to do ahead of the new season.

A lot has been said about if James Trafford’s transfer fee was too much, with criticisms about the deal.
Leeds United however, have full confidence in the keeper who is seen as their future. Speaking to LUTV in his first interview, Trafford’s thoughts on his transfer fee were bluntly said.
“I don’t really care if I have a point to prove.” he said.
“I know my own abilities. I go out and try as hard as I can and have as much fun as I can. Everything that comes with it is what it is. I am really excited and just really happy that it is finally done. I can get onto preparing for the new season and can focus on getting in with everyone next week.”
The former Burnley keeper then went on to speak about Leeds and how big of a club they are.
“It is one amazing club, full of energy and passion – the club and the fans. That goes a really long way because of the energy of the team, the players and the fans contribute to results and performances and improving them. It is just a great place for anyone, let alone myself, to play.”

Trafford has nothing to prove
James Trafford’s accomplishments speak for themselves.
Even before he joined Leeds he won to trophies for Manchester City in their cup runs. He kept clean sheets in two wins in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals to help his team lift both trophies.
A season before at Burnley, he levelled the clean sheet record in the Championship’s history, conceding just 16 goals.
The former Manchester City man was even named in the PFA Team of the Year in League One back in 2023. His ability has never been in doubt, and he is on his way to becoming England number one.
Leeds United paid a premium for a very good player; he has nothing to prove to anyone.
