Leeds United could return to the transfer market in January to address an area Daniel Farke wanted to strengthen during the summer, with the club already keeping tabs on a player who has attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe.
The Whites spent much of the previous window looking for midfield reinforcements but ultimately failed to bring in another option. That could mean revisiting their plans when the transfer window reopens, especially as the demands of a Premier League campaign continue to test the squad.
A report from TEAMtalk suggests Leeds have been tracking a 24-year-old midfielder for more than a year, but they may have to act quickly if they want to bring him to Elland Road.

Leeds face competition for Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder

The player is Issouf Sissokho, who currently plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Mali international operates primarily as a defensive midfielder and has established himself as a regular in the Israeli top flight since joining the club from Bordeaux in 2024.
TEAMtalk understands Leeds remain firmly in the picture and have maintained a long-standing interest in Sissokho. Sources suggest the Premier League club are likely to make a formal approach once the January window opens.
Crucially, Sissokho is reportedly open to moving to England and would favour a switch to Elland Road. That could give Leeds an advantage, but they are not the only club looking to secure his signature.
Levante preparing an offer as Leeds consider their move

LaLiga side Levante appear to have made the most concrete progress so far. The Spanish club have already been in contact with the midfielder’s representatives and are understood to be preparing an offer worth around ÂŁ4.2m.
That puts pressure on Leeds to make their intentions clear early in January rather than allow a rival to take the initiative.
Sissokho could represent a relatively affordable option for Farke, particularly given the club’s failure to add another midfielder during the summer. His defensive qualities could provide useful competition and cover in an area where Leeds may need greater depth as the season progresses.
There is still work to do before any deal can be considered close, and Leeds have yet to make a formal approach. But their interest is established, the player is reportedly keen on the move, and the coming weeks could determine whether they turn that interest into a serious attempt to bring him to Yorkshire.
