Manchester United’s reported interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin has given Leeds United another transfer issue to deal with ahead of the January window, but Daniel Farke is making it clear where the club’s priorities lie.

The England international has become an important figure at Elland Road, and losing him mid-season would be a significant blow to Leeds. Manchester United are understood to be exploring a January move, although developments now suggest his future could lie elsewhere.

Farke was asked about the speculation at his press conference and chose his words carefully.

Farke responds to Manchester United interest

The Leeds manager refused to be drawn into discussing reports linking Calvert-Lewin with a move to Old Trafford, but made it clear that the striker remains central to his plans.

“No, I’m not willing to speak about any rumours or something like this”, Farke said in a press conference on Thursday.

“Obviously, Dominic’s an important player for [us], and it’s always our plan; we want to keep our best players.”

It was a brief response, but the message was straightforward. Leeds have no intention of making it easy for another club to prise away one of their key players, particularly during the middle of a Premier League campaign.

Calvert-Lewin expected to commit future to Leeds

Manchester United’s interest is understandable given their need for greater options in attack, and Calvert-Lewin’s experience in English football makes him an attractive proposition.

However, the situation appears to be moving in Leeds’ favour. The striker is now expected to sign a new contract at Elland Road, which would represent a significant boost for Farke and the club.

Keeping Calvert-Lewin would also send an important message about Leeds’ ambitions. Having worked hard to establish themselves back in the Premier League, they cannot afford to lose influential players without having adequate replacements lined up.

For now, Farke is refusing to entertain the speculation publicly. His comments suggest that Leeds want to retain their leading players, and Calvert-Lewin’s expected new deal could ensure Manchester United have to look elsewhere for January reinforcements.
