“They’re going to…” – Leeds ace tipped for January Elland Road exit

Leeds United could face another decision over their attacking options when the January transfer window opens, with one of their forwards attracting interest from the Championship.

The Whites have several players competing for places in the final third, and not everyone will be satisfied with their current role. A move away could become an attractive option if regular football remains difficult to secure, particularly with clubs elsewhere looking to strengthen their squads.

One former Premier League striker believes a Leeds player could be an excellent addition for a promotion-chasing side.

Phillips backs Southampton move for Nmecha

Kevin Phillips has tipped Southampton to pursue a January move for Lukas Nmecha, suggesting the Leeds forward could bring significant quality to their attack.

Nmecha has previously been linked with several clubs, but his future at Elland Road could become a talking point if his opportunities remain limited. Phillips believes the striker can make a difference if given a consistent run in the team.

“I think Nmecha would bring quality to the team. We know he can score goals. I think he just needs a run in a side”, Phillips said, as quoted by the Daily Echo.

The former England international also suggested Nmecha could form an effective partnership with Cyle Larin at Southampton.

“Nmecha’s been linked with many big clubs. If Southampton secure his services, I think with him and [Cyle] Larin you’ve got two really top-quality strikers.”

Leeds could consider January departure

Phillips’ comments will inevitably raise questions about Nmecha’s longer-term future at Leeds as his contract expires at the end of the season. He has shown no indication that he is open to signing a new deal.

The German forward has the experience and finishing ability to offer something different in attack, but establishing himself as a regular has not been straightforward. If he cannot secure a consistent role, a January departure could make sense for both the player and the club.

Southampton would offer him an opportunity to play more regularly and potentially become an important figure in their promotion push. For Leeds, moving him on could also free up space and resources for other attacking options.

Nothing suggests a deal is imminent, and Phillips’ comments should not be mistaken for confirmation of Southampton’s transfer plans. However, interest in Nmecha is another sign his future could become a subject of discussion when the window opens.

A move to St Mary’s is one option Leeds may consider if the striker’s situation does not improve.
