There has been a lot of noise about Leeds United and their summer signings this season. But their core players remain key contributors as the club eye a long term stay in the Premier League.

James Trafford has turned out to be a wonderful signing for the club, and Tarik Muharemovic has hit the ground running.

Nicol Elvedi has slowly made himself untouchable in this Leeds side despite arriving as a replacement for Sebastiaan Bornauw.

Amid the praise for the new boys at Elland Road, the players that made their mark last season have continued where they left off. Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach have maintained their impressive level.

James Justin has grow into a key tactical piece for this system under Daniel Farke. Jayde Bogle and Gabriel Gudmudsson have also been impressive as the wingbacks of this Leeds side.

And this season, Calvert-Lewi is looking sharper than ever, with four goals in all competitions.

Duncan Ferguson, who was at Everton as a coach between 2019 and 2022, believes that the Toffees should never have let the striker leave. Ferguson was interim boss for the club twice before leaving in 2022.

“[Everton] should never have let Dominic go,” he said on The Overlap.

“I coached Dominic as a young man and I put him in my team.

“He scored his first two goals in the same game; the game I managed against Chelsea. I put him up front. He’s a great player.

“You should never have let him go. But obviously I don’t know what’s happened behind the scenes.

“If he wanted £200,000 a week, give him £200,000 a week. If he wanted £100,000 a week, give him it.”

The move has worked out for Leeds and Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Last summer, no club wanted to take the gamble on Dominic Calvert-Lewin who was a free agent. Everton reportedly did not meet his demands, which lead him to leave the club in search of a new environment.

Leeds United gave him just that, the 49ers ad Daniel Farke made their choice to sign him as a starting striker.

Almost everyone believed it was a huge gamble give the players age, injury history and the reported wages he was on. But since arriving at Elland Road, the striker has breathed new life into his career.

15 goals in all competitions last season put him back on the radar of England and Thomas Tuchel.

Calvert-Lewin also took the risk of joining this Leeds project, signing on with a newly-promoted side and he has never looked back.
