Gary Lineker left in awe of Leeds United target after World Cup heroics

Gary Lineker makes bold Leeds claim

Leeds united have began work on possible transfer targets as of this week. David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed that the Whites are set to land their first summer signing.

Wales international Harry Wilson has reached an agreement with the club over a move.

A medical is scheduled for the midfielder as the club won the race to sign him. Per the report, it is a long-term deal with a high salary, with the former Fulham man set to arrive as a free agent.

After Wilson, it is believed that Leeds are looking at another free agent; Julian Brandt.

The attacking midfielder left Borussia Dortmund after a long time at the club. Many suitors will be in the race, but the 49ers will once again push to beat the odds and land another quality player.

Leeds United have also been keeping a close eye on some players at the World Cup.

Their targets are said to include the likes of Ayase Ueda and Zion Suzuki. The Daily Mail recently linked them with Bosnia star Kerim Alajbegovic.

The teenager set the World Cup alight with a stunning goal this week.

Gary Lineker was discussing the talented attack on the Rest Is Football podcast.

“I don’t know whether you saw the goal from Alajbegovic.

“Absolutely stunning. I think he’s an 18-year-old. Plays for RB Salzburg, actually, and definitely one to watch. I mean, he beat two men, and then he smashed it in the top corner. Stunning goal, Micah.”

The reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Leeds have contacted the player’s representatives over a summer move.

Daniel Farke could do with more wide options

If Alajbegovic is a realistic target, then Leeds need to do all they can to sign him.

Last season, the wide options at the club were not great; Dan James was constantly injured and Wilfried Gnonto failed to get going all year. The club need more fire power out wide.

Noah Okafor was the only goal threat this past season outside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

If Leeds are to have a better season next year, then they need to address the lack of quality in attacking areas.

As shown over this past year, Kerim Alajbegovic looks like the kind of player to do that. He is lightning quick and has an eye for goal, the 49ers need to push to seal the deal.
