Leeds United face Augsburg in their final pre-season game ahead of their league opener. Daniel Farke’s side have impressed in the offseason.

They have managed to get wins against Sunderland and Liverpool, and held Manchester United to a draw on Wednesday.

Fans have been excited ahead of the new season, believing this Leeds team can do better than they did last year. The 49ers are also doing their part, trying to improve the team ahead of the transfer deadline.

The latest deal at Elland Road sees the exit of Joe Gelhardt, who has joined rivals Hull City.

Leeds have signed just three players in this summer, and will hope to get more through the door in the coming days.

Leeds United dealt huge injury blow ahead of Premier League opener

Before their pre-season game at Elland Road, Ilia Gruev and Gabriel Gudmundsson were the only absentees due to injury.

Gruev is yet to fully recover from his injury at the end of last season, but is progressing well.

Daniel Farke confirmed that Gabriel Gudmundsson is out for a while and could miss the opening game away to Nottingham Forest. Leeds United received more bad news before kick off on Saturday.

Adam Pope confirmed that Wilfried Gnonto has picked up a hamstring injury.

There is currently no timeline on his return, but it does look like he will not be available for the first game of the season next weekend.

Gnonto had an assist in the win over RB Leipzig last weekend.

Gnonto’s injury may accelerate plans for a new attacker

Just like with Gudmundsson’s injury, the prospect of losing Gnonto raises alarm.

The Whites do not have much depth in wide areas even after adding Harry Wilson in this summer window.

Leeds need more quality in attack, especially after Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto combine for just one goal in all competitions last season.

Gnonto’s injury also halts any plans of selling the Italian with just a week to go before the new season starts.

The 49ers are said to be looking at options up front and out wide, so fans will hope one of the targets can be an upgrade on current options. Leeds have been linked with AC Milan forward Rafael Leao in the past few days.

With just a few weeks to go until the transfer deadline, it will be interesting to see what happens.
